ISO Flange conform to the vacuum flange standards issued by the International Standard Organizations (ISO). They share an equivalent underlying principle because the QF (KF or NW) flange series therein two smooth-faced sexless flanges clamp along with a sealing device between them. Each flange face includes a counter-bore into which inserts a metal Centering Ring with an elastomeric O-ring around its outer diameter. The centering ring has two roles: first to align the flanges; and second to stop the O-ring being pushed in by the external air pressure when the joint is under vacuum.

ISO Flanges have two clampings mechanism holding the flanges together. The first, called K-style, uses separate clamps hooked over the border of the mating flanges and spaced round the circumference. The second, called F-style, uses conventional bolt holes within the flange periphery. While an F-style flanges comes as one, solid part complete with the bolt holes, it’s also available, and more commonly used, during a three part structure during which a K-style flange is customized with a retaining ring and a bolt ring into the F-style (see diagrams below). The multi-part flange have the apparent advantage that it mates to either K-style or F-style just by using the suitable pieces within the assembly. The only part F-style, however, also has a very important advantage, though a less obvious one. It’s more strength than the multi-part flange when used as a structural element to support the load of the vacuum system.

K-style flanges are usually less costly than the F-style and need less clearance round the tubing during insulation. But we provide a range of bolt/clamp options permitting joints between mixed K- and F-style flanges The illustration (see diagram below) shows various clamping arrangements.
